Malibu Kiwanis Chili Cookoff & Carnival
at the Malibu "Convention Center".

September 3 & 4, 2005

With a killer recipe from Fresh Start Catering, G&G Motorsports fired up some great chili this Labor Day weekend at the Malibu Kiwanis Chili Cookoff. We had decided that 100% of the proceeds we going to go to Step Up On Second, a non-profit in Santa Monica that helps the homeless and mentally ill get back on their feet. We had our booth set up and ready to serve right away at 11:00am when the gates opened. It wasn't long before we knew our chili was a hit, as people streamed back to our booth for seconds and thirds, or for a bigger bowl.

A busy day!

We had a nice surprise early in the afternoon when Frankie dropped by our booth. Frankie is Indian Larry's brother! We talked shop for a while. We might be seeing him at Bikenight sometime soon.

It turned out to be a very nice day. Lots of people, lots of fun, and we sold a boatload of chili! Unfortunately, being our first time there, we didn't know to turn in our ticket bucket at 3:30pm, so we lost out on that part of the competition. But there was always tomorrow!

On Sunday we had the R6 and the Harley parked in front of the booth. And since the tickets were good for the whole weekend, we saw a lot of the same faces from yesterday. But man did we see a lot of new faces too. Not to mention so many Bikenight peeps! Thanks to Bikerchef, FlipRyder, Beau and everyone else that came out in support. There was hardly a moment when Greg or I wasn't serving chili! And we knew when to drop off our entry this time! Just as we were being interviewed by a local Malibu TV Station, they announced that we had won the People's Choice for best chili! That was fantastic!

All in all we had a ver fun weekend. Thanks to everyone that came! Oh and the recipe? I can't say... but it involves filet mignon and Guiness Beer. It was GOOD!
